Quick Navigation

What Is Honkai: Nexus Anima?

Honkai: Nexus Anima is a cross-platform action RPG from HoYoverse that blends open-world exploration with strategic auto-battler combat. You play as a Planestrider — a traveler who crosses dimensional boundaries — and arrive in the seaside town of Iia on the Reality Plane. There you befriend mystical creatures called Anima, bond with them through daily activities, and deploy them in Nexus Battles against waves of enemies.

Unlike traditional Honkai titles focused on gacha character rosters, Nexus Anima centers on collecting, raising, and strategically positioning Anima creatures. Each Anima belongs to an Aspect identity (such as Light, War, Memory, or Hate) and fills a combat Trait role (Striker, Protector, Blaster, and more). Stacking three or more Anima of the same Aspect unlocks powerful team-wide synergy bonuses that define your battle strategy.

Between combat encounters, you explore Iia freely: race through town districts, participate in water gun minigames, photograph landmarks, and complete quests that deepen your bond with individual Anima. The game is designed for both PC and mobile with cross-platform account sync, making it accessible whether you prefer keyboard-and-mouse or touch controls.

This wiki documents everything confirmed during the Evolution Test closed beta. Combat numbers, Anima stats, and progression systems may change before global release, but our guides reflect the most current beta data available.

Evolution Test Closed Beta

The Evolution Test is the second major closed beta for Honkai: Nexus Anima, following the earlier Nexus Bond Test. It introduces expanded Nexus Battle stages, additional Anima species, refined Aspect synergy thresholds, and more open-world content in Iia. Access is limited to players who register through HoYoverse's official beta portal and complete the eligibility questionnaire.

Registration requires a valid HoYoverse account, age verification (typically 18+ depending on region), and a supported device. PC players need a Windows machine meeting minimum specs; mobile players can join on select iOS and Android devices. Our How to Join Evolution Test guide walks through every step of the sign-up process, including questionnaire tips that improve your selection odds.

Beta progress is subject to periodic data wipes — meaning characters, items, and unlocks may be reset between test phases. The Beta Timeline & Data Wipes page tracks confirmed test windows, wipe schedules, and what (if anything) carries over to the next phase or final release. Always back up important discoveries in notes, since beta accounts do not persist indefinitely.

Platform requirements, regional availability, and account linking rules are covered in our Requirements & Platforms guide. If you are selected, install the beta client through the official HoYoverse launcher or mobile store link provided in your acceptance email — third-party APKs are not supported and may compromise your account.

Anima — Your Companion Creatures

Anima are the heart of Honkai: Nexus Anima. These creature companions fight alongside you in Nexus Battles, assist during exploration, and grow stronger as your bond deepens. Each Anima has a star rating (2–5 stars in beta), base stats, an Aspect identity, a Trait combat role, and unique active or passive abilities that activate during auto-battle.

The beta roster includes over 40 confirmed Anima ranging from common 2-star fillers like Nomnom to flagship 5-star carries such as Mesmerith, Hoppelon, and Cumulon. Our All Anima List database catalogs every confirmed creature with Aspect, Trait, tier placement, and ability summaries.

Anima are obtained through story progression, Nexus Battle rewards, exploration encounters, and beta gacha systems. Rarity affects base stat ceilings and skill potency, but team composition matters more than individual power — a well-synergized trio of 4-star Memory Anima often outperforms a scattered lineup of higher-rarity units without matching Aspects.

Bonding activities outside combat — feeding, playing minigames, completing personal quests — increase affinity and can unlock cosmetic variants or enhanced battle passives. See our Exploration & Anima Bonding guide for efficient bonding routes in Iia during your first week.

Aspects, Traits & Team Synergies

Aspects are elemental or thematic identities assigned to every Anima. Confirmed beta Aspects include Light, War, Memory, Hate, Satiation, Love, and Reality. When you field three or more Anima sharing the same Aspect, a team-wide synergy bonus activates — granting stat boosts, shield effects, damage amplification, or utility perks depending on the Aspect.

Aspect thresholds scale at 3, 6, and 9 units, making roster construction a puzzle of balancing synergy density against role coverage. Our Aspects Explained page breaks down every identity's bonus tiers, and the Aspect Synergy Calculator lets you preview which thresholds your draft lineup activates before entering battle.

Traits define each Anima's combat role and preferred row placement. Strikers and Protectors excel in the front row; Blasters, Masterminds, and Cherubims typically sit in the back row; Controllers and Explorers occupy flexible mid-row positions. The Traits Explained guide covers every role's attack patterns, targeting priority, and positioning recommendations.

Building a competitive team means aligning Aspect clusters with complementary Traits — for example, a Memory trio of Camcorgi (Striker), Mushgloomini (Protector), and Inkicorn (Protector) with back-row Blaster support from Inkifoal or Cinechel. Our Aspect Synergy Builds and Trait Positioning Guide provide ready-made templates and row-by-row placement charts.

Animasters — Passive Team Leaders

Animasters are special passive leaders you assign before each Nexus Battle. Unlike fielded Anima, an Animaster does not occupy a grid slot; instead, they grant a persistent team-wide buff for the entire encounter. Each Animaster specializes in amplifying a specific Aspect, Trait combination, or playstyle archetype.

Choosing the right Animaster can shift a mediocre lineup into a top-tier composition. A War-focused Animaster might increase front-row damage reduction, while a Memory Animaster accelerates synergy skill cooldowns. The key is matching your Animaster pick to the dominant Aspect cluster in your nine-slot formation.

Our Animaster Team Compositions guide pairs every confirmed beta Animaster with recommended Anima rosters, including early-game budget options and late-test optimized builds. Cross-reference with the Meta Team Compositions tier list to see which Animaster pairings dominate Evolution Test leaderboards.

Animasters unlock through story milestones and Nexus Battle progression. During beta, not all Animasters are available from day one — check the Nexus Battle Progression walkthrough for unlock order and stage requirements.

Nexus Battles — Strategic Auto-Battler Combat

Nexus Battles are the core combat mode: a 3-row, 9-slot auto-battler where your Anima fight automatically once formations are set. Before each encounter, you select up to nine Anima, assign them to front, mid, or back rows based on their Traits, choose an Animaster, and optionally configure a pre-battle deck of buff cards.

During battle, your Anima use abilities on cooldown without manual input — success depends entirely on pre-fight planning. Mid-battle, you may be offered choices between buff cards that temporarily boost specific Aspects or Traits. The Nexus Battle Auto Chess Guide explains wave structure, card selection priorities, and common positioning mistakes.

Deck building adds another strategic layer. You assemble a small pool of buff cards before entering a stage series, and drawing the right card at the right moment can turn a losing fight around. Our Deck Building & Aspect Synergies guide lists high-value cards for each Aspect identity and recommends deck sizes for early versus late stages.

New players often struggle with the first ten stages. The How to Beat Early Nexus Battles guide covers budget teams, when to reroll buffs, and which free Anima to invest in first. For a full beginner overview, start with How to Play Honkai: Nexus Anima.

Open-World Exploration in Iia

Outside Nexus Battles, Honkai: Nexus Anima offers a vibrant open world centered on Iia, a coastal town on the Reality Plane. You navigate districts on foot or with Anima-assisted traversal, interact with NPCs, accept side quests, and discover hidden collectibles scattered across rooftops, beaches, and market alleys.

Exploration is not filler content — it is how you unlock new Anima, earn crafting materials, and trigger bonding events. The Iia Reality Plane map guide documents every district, fast-travel point, and key NPC location. For a broader look at dimensional travel and future regions, see Planes & Regions Overview.

Minigames add variety to traversal: street races through Iia's winding roads, water gun battles in plaza arenas, and a photo mode for capturing Anima in scenic spots. The Exploration & Minigames page lists every activity type, reward tables, and optimal routes for farming bonding points during daily sessions.

If you are just starting out, follow the Beginner First Week Guide and Iia Town Early Game walkthrough for a structured path through quests, unlocks, and your first Anima captures without wasting stamina on inefficient routes.

Tier Lists & Meta Rankings

Our tier lists rank every confirmed Anima and team archetype based on Evolution Test beta performance — not speculation. Rankings consider synergy potential, standalone power, role flexibility, and investment cost. Because beta patches frequently rebalance stats, we update tiers after each major test phase.

The Anima Tier List places all 40+ creatures into S, A, B, and C tiers with detailed reasoning for each placement. Flagship 5-stars like Mesmerith (Hate), Hoppelon (Light), and Bladehound (War) consistently hold S-tier, but several 4-star units punch above their rarity when slotted into synergy teams.

Individual Anima power only tells part of the story. The Aspect Synergy Rankings evaluate which Aspect identities deliver the strongest team-wide bonuses at 3- and 6-unit thresholds. Memory and Light tend to dominate early beta, but War and Hate compositions scale harder in late-stage Nexus Battles.

For complete ready-to-play setups, the Meta Team Compositions page lists the highest win-rate formations from beta data, including Animaster pairings, row placements, and recommended deck cards. Cross-reference with our build guides when adapting meta teams to your owned roster.

Wiki Tools & Strategy Guides

Theorycrafting a Nexus Battle lineup by hand is tedious. Our interactive tools let you experiment with formations before spending in-game resources. The Team Formation Planner provides a visual 3-row grid where you drag Anima into slots and instantly see Aspect threshold activation.

The Aspect Synergy Calculator accepts any combination of up to nine Anima and outputs active synergy tiers, total stat bonuses, and missing-Aspect warnings. Pair it with the Deck Builder to assemble a pre-battle buff deck and review combined synergy summaries before entering a stage series.

Written guides complement the tools with narrative walkthroughs and video references. Browse the full Guides hub for topics ranging from beta registration to advanced deck tech. Featured starting points include the complete beginner overview, the video registration walkthrough, and the auto-battler strategy primer.

Control reference pages help you optimize settings across devices. PC players should bookmark PC Controls & Keybindings; mobile players should review Mobile Touch Controls and Cross-Platform Settings for graphics presets and account sync.
