Honkai: Nexus Anima Traits Explained
All combat and meta information on this page is based on Evolution Test beta data and may change before the global release.
What Are Traits?
Traits define combat roles and optimal row placement for each Anima during Nexus Battles in Honkai: Nexus Anima. While Aspects determine synergy bonuses across your formation, Traits determine individual behavior—who tanks front-line damage, who heals from safety, and who controls enemy movement from Mid row. Mastering Traits separates efficient Planestriders from players who waste roster potential through misplacement.
Every confirmed Anima carries exactly one Trait. Traits cannot be changed or upgraded independently of the Anima species itself. Team building requires balancing Trait coverage alongside Aspect synergies, ensuring Front row durability, Mid row utility, and Back row damage or healing coexist within your nine-slot formation.
Front Row Combat Traits
Strikers fight in Front row as melee DPS units dealing close-range physical damage while absorbing partial enemy focus. Popular Strikers include Felinoxie, Bunmareen, Scorscythe, and Camcorgi across various Aspect identities. Strikers trade durability for output and require Protector support for extended engagements.
Protectors anchor Front row as dedicated tanks with high durability stats. Bladehound and Hoppelon dominate beta Protector rankings for War and Light teams respectively. Donubi and Mushgloomini provide alternative Protector options. At least one Protector or durable Front unit is essential for stable Nexus Battle progression.
Back Row Combat Traits
Blasters operate from Back row delivering ranged damage. Cumulon and Magisdrake represent premier Reality Blasters while Cinechel and Inkifoal serve Memory compositions. Blasters are fragile if enemies reach Back row, making Front line stability critical.
Cherubim heal allies from Back row with Lumehart and Plumelune as flagship healers. Masterminds including Faeflux and Mimoo buff allies rather than dealing raw damage. Hotheads like Mesmerith deliver volatile burst from Back row, combining range safety with high damage spikes during CC windows.
Mid Row Utility Traits
Explorers fill Mid row with utility skills favoring open-world traversal over pure combat. Taileep and Olivesper provide lock-picking and exploration bonuses in Iia town while contributing modest Mid row combat presence during Nexus Battles.
Controllers disrupt enemies from Mid row with stuns, slows, and displacement. Damasque and C'locked apply crowd control supporting Hate burst compositions and Memory scaling teams respectively. Controllers shine in stages with dangerous enemy formations requiring disruption before damage dealers activate.
Trait Positioning Strategy
Standard formations allocate Front slots to Strikers and Protectors, Mid slots to Controllers and Explorers, and Back slots to Blasters, Cherubim, Masterminds, and Hotheads. Deviating from recommended rows wastes unit potential regardless of Aspect synergy strength.

Trait Synergy With Aspects
Traits and Aspects stack independently during Nexus Battles. A Memory Protector like Inkicorn contributes both Memory threshold progress and Front row durability simultaneously. Optimizing one layer while ignoring the other produces underperforming teams despite impressive individual unit ratings on paper.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Traits exist?
Eight Traits are confirmed: Striker, Protector, Blaster, Mastermind, Cherubim, Explorer, Hothead, and Controller, each with designated row preferences.
Can Traits be changed?
No. Trait assignment is fixed per Anima species and cannot be modified through upgrades or items.
What happens if I place a Blaster in Front row?
Blasters placed Front receive increased enemy aggro and typically die quickly due to low durability, wasting their ranged damage potential.
Which Trait is most important for beginners?
Protectors provide the most noticeable impact for new players by preventing front-line collapses. Recruit Bladehound or Hoppelon early when possible.
Do Traits affect Aspect synergies?
No. Aspect thresholds count all deployed Anima regardless of Trait. Traits and Aspects are independent team-building layers.
